Critical Thinking: Classroom to Workplace
June 9 & 10, 2008
Loveland, Colorado

Whether you are a concerned parent, a frustrated educator, or an anxious business leader, you know that the Chinese and other Asian countries are not waiting for our school reform committees to complete their work. We are a nation at risk of losing our leadership position in the global marketplace because we are failing to prepare a highly skilled workforce to meet the demands of current and emerging STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) businesses. If you have grown weary of philosophical discussions, wary of magic bullet solutions, or frustrated by a lack of focused action, you will want to attend the first annual conference on 21st Century Learning and the Workplace.

This work-centered conference will bring together teams of K-12 and higher education, parents, business leaders, and workforce/economic development experts to build community action plans focused on creating rigorous and relevance educational experiences for students and workers of all ages. The conference will focus on enhancing critical thinking and career and technical education as a pathway to improving the quality of life throughout Colorado communities.

Participants will hear from both experts and successful practitioners who are struggling to make sense of a changing economic landscape. You will learn about meaningful research and promising practices within numerous aspects of STEM career clusters. You will begin to challenge your assumptions about learning: who can learn, what they are capable of learning, and how they can combine academic rigor and workplace relevance. We will not answer all of your questions, but we will deepen them and provide you with supportive networks of other experts and practitioners with whom you can explore new educational and economic opportunities. Arrive with an open mind and leave with an action plan and a pledge for ongoing support.

Cost of Conference is $275 per person.
